The blue blur is set to reclaim his spot on the starting grid. Sega has officially announced that Sonic Racing Crossworlds will launch on September 25, 2025. This new entry in the beloved kart racing series is slated for a wide release, arriving on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is also in development for a later date.

Developed by the renowned Sonic Team, with contributions from the developers of the Initial D arcade games, Sonic Racing Crossworlds aims to be the most ambitious racing title in the franchise’s history. The game’s central innovation is the “CrossWorld” mechanic, a dynamic feature that will see racers warp through portals mid-race, instantly transporting them to different tracks and environments. This promises a chaotic and unpredictable experience, ensuring that no two laps are ever the same.

Sega is positioning Sonic Racing Crossworlds as a definitive celebration of the series, incorporating elements from previous racing titles. Fans can expect a massive roster of playable characters, touted as the largest to date for a Sonic racing game. The starting lineup will feature 24 iconic characters from the Sonic universe, with a pre-order bonus unlocking Sonic the Werehog.

Your game can sometimes trigger some old, corrupted, or outdated drivers from your laptop or PC. We strongly recommend using a dedicated agent with a patented technology that can search the latest and working versions of your drivers. This will help you stay away from risks associated with installing the wrong driver versions, such as:
  • crashes
  • lags
  • fps drops
  • BSoDs
  • failed launches

The ambition of the project extends well beyond the initial release. Sega has already detailed an extensive roadmap for post-launch content. This includes free monthly updates adding 13 additional characters from other Sega properties. Furthermore, a season pass will introduce 15 guest characters from popular non-Sega franchises. Confirmed collaborations include characters and tracks from blockbuster titles like Minecraft, as well as beloved series such as SpongeBob SquarePants and PAC-MAN, which are scheduled to be released in waves throughout late 2025 and into 2026.

Leading up to its launch, Sega has built considerable anticipation through a series of events, including a Summer Game Fest trailer, closed and open beta tests, and a single-player demo released on September 17. These opportunities have given players a taste of the game’s robust customization options, new items, and refined, high-speed gameplay, setting the stage for a major new contender in the arcade racing genre.
