Total War: WARHAMMER 2 Crashing, Not Launching [Solved]

Total War: WARHAMMER 2, a sequel to the award-winning strategy game of titanic proportions, is also a popular game on Steam and other platforms.

Developers optimized the game engine so players with older systems could play, and those with faster PCs could up the ante with more units and more eye candy.

Although the optimization, there are still some gamers that are complaining about issues and bugs. They are saying that they can’t launch the game or that they encounter some game-breaking crashes.

Why does Total War Warhammer 2 keep crashing?

Most probably, Total War Warhammer 2 crashes when loading campaign, or randomly because of an outdated driver, or your PC won’t meet the minimum specs of the game.

How to fix Total War: WARHAMMER 2 crashing?

For some players, Total War Warhammer 2 crashes when loading the campaign, or keeps crashing after playing normally for a few hours. For some, their PC also restarts.

Another instance where crashes have been reported is at game startup, which has left some users unable to start the game.

An issue similar to the startup crashes is the black screen. Sometimes, it seems that instead of a crash, you might encounter an everlasting black screen.

To fix the random or startup crashes and the black screen, follow the solutions below.

1. Update your drivers

Out-of-date drivers can cause serious performance issues, including crashing or failing to launch.

  1. Go to Nvidia’s Driver Support page.
  2. Follow either Option 1 (manually entering device information) or Option 2 (automatically scan and detect device information) to determine the appropriate software version.
  3. Download the software installer and run it, following any directions or prompts.

  1. Go to AMD’s Driver Support page.
  2. Ether manually enter your device information under “Download Drivers” on the right or download the tool to automatically scan and detect your device information from the central column.
  3. Download the suggested software installer and run it, following any directions or prompts.

  1. Go to Intel’s Driver Support page.
  2. Ether manually enter your device information under “Find downloads by product name” or use the tool to automatically scan and detect your device information from the top of the page.
  3. Download the suggested software installer and run it, following any directions or prompts.

  1. Go to Realtek’s Driver Support page.
  2. Select the “High Definition Audio Codecs”.
  3. Accept the terms and click “Next”.
  4. Determine the appropriate version for your operating system and download the installer from the closest mirror site.
  5. Run the installer, following all prompts and instructions.

Your computer’s graphics drivers will perform and function less effectively if they are out-of-date. It means that your computer is missing the necessary patches and upgrades to help you fix bugs and boost performance. Therefore, it can be the reason for the crashing issues.

To avoid these types of problems, you can use an automatic tool that will find, download, and install the right driver version on your Windows PC in just a couple of clicks, and we strongly recommend Outbyte Driver Updater.

2. Start Game in Offline Mode

Some people have claimed this worked for them. In Steam, go to Steam in the top left corner and press: Go Offline. Now start the game.

3. Wait more than 5 minutes

Some people have claimed they had to wait quite some time for the game to load, longer than most games.

4. Add the game manually to Firewall Exceptions

Sometimes the firewall exception window doesn’t appear, and the user will have to add the game manually. A combination of this fix and the above two may be needed in order to be effective.

5. Turn off Steam Overlay for Warhammer II

Go to your library, open up the properties of Warhammer II. In the General tab disable Steam Overlay.
Otherwise, make sure you’ve updated your graphics card drivers, restarted steam and your PC, as well verifying your game cache integrity.

6. Disable mods you’ve installed, or just remove them.

Some people have installed mods that may cause your game to crash. If you do have mods installed, remove them just to be sure.
