Not many can fork out that much for the basic edition, especially now that times are hard. Playing and enjoying Diablo 4 has become a luxury, and gamers are skeptical about paying the high price.

There are several reasons Diablo 4 costs as much as it does, and we are here to break it down for you. So, keep reading as we explore the costs behind its price tag before you make a purchasing decision.

Blizzard reputation

Blizzard, the brain behind Diablo 4, has a high reputation to uphold. The company’s second-best-selling game of all time, Diablo 3, has sold over 30 million copies and counting. But what does this have to do with Diablo 4?

The popularity and success of Diablo 3 set the bar high for Diablo 4 in terms of content and quality. Players who enjoy Diablo 3 expect Diablo 4 to supersede it in all aspects. With such high expectations and a loyal fanbase, Blizzard knows it has to meet and surpass them.

The making of Diablo 4

Keeping in mind the fan’s high expectations, Blizzard has to go all out on the development and creation of Diablo 4. Generally, developing any game is quite expensive. There are many resource-intensive tasks to cover financially and many stages in the development process that require time, money, and effort. Couple this with creating a massive and ambitious game like Diablo 4; the development costs quickly increase.

Why is Diablo 4 so expensive?

From developing complex AI systems and multiplayer functionality to creating detailed 3D environments and models, the amount of money Blizzard has to drop on Diablo 4’s creation becomes expensive. Some of the extensive categories the company has to cover include, but are not limited to:

  • QA testing
  • Programming and AI development
  • Game engine development
  • Sound design
  • art and animation
  • Marketing

Blizzard’s primary goal is to create a game that stands out in the heavily saturated gaming world. With game developers releasing new games almost every month, Blizzard aims to ensure their games are exceptional and a worthy addition to their collection. They also want gamers to see and feel the difference between the company’s games and others in the market.

So, during development, they must go all out and put in the time and resources to create a high-quality game like Diablo 4.

The pricing model for Diablo 4

After developing Diablo 4, Blizzard had to create a pricing model for the game before it was released to the public. Here, they determined the base price for buying the game and other costs, such as the cash shop. They had to consider several factors that can affect the price of a game, like:

  • Popularity: Generally, the more popular a game is, the more in demand it is, which drives up its cost. Since Blizzard is a well-known game development company with a proven track record of releasing unique and quality games, they can get away with setting a high price. Fans know they’re getting value for their money.
  • Rating: A higher rating from trusted sources like Metacritic can influence high game prices. This is because fans will pay more for games with positive critical acclaim.
  • Development expenses: All companies have to make a profit and to do this, they have to consider the money, time, and effort that went into development and create a pricing model that allows them to recoup this cost.
  • Competitor prices: Game development companies lower or increase their game prices depending on competitor pricing models to stay relevant in the market.

After considering these factors and more, Blizzard must develop a fair pricing model that reflects the value Diablo 4 brings to gamers, which is $70.

Is Diablo 4 worth the price tag?

If you look at the time, money, effort, and resources that go into developing a fantastic game like Diablo 4, then the $70 price tag is worth it. While many gamers may not agree, Diablo 4 is a labor of love. If you’re on the fence about purchasing the game, hopefully, this article gives you insight into its cost.

most dungeons repeat themselves IN themselves. the whole game is essentially D3 with a new endboss. ‘labor of love’ eh. ‘labor of no care’, more like. putting a 70 dollar pricetag on he BASE VERSION is nothing but outright GREED. plain and simple. There is absolutely no reason this should be priced any different than a D3 ‘mod’.

Labour of love, with a huge payout… I think that’s an oxymoron?

Labour of love? Where they didn’t even out they’re all into making this game don’t get me wrong it was fun for a week but they put so little effort into this game and the concept of the game that it’s not even worth 30 bucks they literally put half they’re effort if that probably less worst diablo game in the entire series feels like they tried to make a phone game on console and its just pathetic

  3. Diablo4istrash says

Too bad blizzard can’t even make a decent diablo game anymore it’s honestly pathetic how dumb diablo 4 is worst one in the series by far especially the game play the story could’ve been so much better thought out and like interesting it feels like they put half their effort in if that
